December is off to a good start with some eagerly-awaited films hitting the big screens in the first week. Let us take a quick look at some of the major releases this week.
Gold (Malayalam): December 1
A much-awaited Malayalam film, Gold arrives in theatres on December 1, Thursday after being rescheduled earlier due to production delays. Written and directed by Alphonse Puthran, Gold is bankrolled by Supriya Menon and Listin Stephen. Gold, touted as a dark comedy, features Prithviraj Sukumaran and Nayanthara in the lead. The film also features Ajmal Ameer, Krishna Sankar, Shabareesh Varma, Chemban, Vinod Jose, Vinay Forrt and Roshan Mathew.
DSP (Tamil): December 2
Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi is back with his next film DSP, set to arrive in theatres on Friday. Directed by Ponram, the action-packed entertainer will see Sethupathi essay a cop. Anukreethy Vas plays the female lead in the film, which features actor Prabhakara as the antagonist. With D. Immam's music, DSP is produced by Kaarthekeyan Santhanam and presented by Karthik Subbaraj's Stone Bench Films.
HIT: The Second Case (Telugu) – December 2
The Telugu crime thriller starring Adivi Sesh and Meenakshi Chaudhary is the second installment in the Hit franchise. The film has garnered attention in the wake of the gruesome murder of Shraddha Walkar in Delhi. Coincidentally, HIT: The Second Case's trailer revealed the plot revolves around the brutal murder of a woman called Sanjana who was "butchered" to death. Speaking to reporters recently, Sesh said director Sailesh Kolanu had written the story months before the murder took place. It is purely by chance that one of the characters in HIT: The Second Case is named Shraddha, who assists the police in the probe.
An Action Hero (Hindi): December 2
Ayushman Khurrana-starrer action flick arrives in theatres on Friday. The film, directed by Anirudh Iyer, follows an artist's journey both in front and behind the lens. The film is produced by filmmaker Aanand L Rai's banner Colour Yellow Production and Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar's T-Series. Ayushmann, known for his socially relevant family dramas, is trying to break that trend and experiment with a different genre with this quirky film.
Saudi Vellakka (Malayalam): December 2
The Malayalam film directed by Tharun Moorthy of 'Operation Java' fame is another socially relevant drama featuring Lukman Lukku, Binu Pappan and Vincy Aloshious. According to reports, the film is based on some true events. Saudi Vellakka has already garnered some positive reviews after its premiere at the 53rd IFFI in Goa recently.
Thimayya & Thimayya (Kannada): December 2
The slice-of-life family drama directed by Sanjay Kumar, features real-life actor couple Diganth and Aindrita Ray in the lead. The film also stars Anant Nag and Shubra Aiyappa. The film, said to be about relationships, is expected to evoke a mixture of strong emotions in the viewers, the team said earlier.
