The Bombay High Court on Monday granted bail to Siddharth Pithani, former flatmate of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, in the drugs case connected to the actor's death.

Pithani was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in May 2021 from Hyderabad. He is currently in judicial custody. A single bench of Justice Bharati Dangre granted bail to Pithani on a bond of Rs 50,000. He had been booked under section 27 (A) (financing illicit traffic and harboring offenders) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, among other charges.

In his bail plea, Pithani had claimed he was framed in the case, and added that no drugs were recovered from him. He had claimed in his plea that he was never found in possession of any drugs, and nothing which could suggest he was involved in drug trafficking was recovered from him.

Sushant was found dead in his Mumbai apartment in June 2020. The NCB had started a probe into the case after finding links to alleged drug racket in the film industry. Sushant's girlfried and actress Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty were also arrested by the NCB. Rhea and Showik are currently out on bail.
