India’s Ricky Kej and Falguni Shah are among the winners at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards held yesterday night at Las Vegas.

Kej won the award for his album ‘Divine Tides’. This is his second Grammy award.

Kej began his acceptance speech by greeting the audience with a ‘namaste’. Kej who won the award along with Stewart Copeland said, “I grew up with his music. I grew up with his posters on my wall and today I’ve won a Grammy along with him. It’s absolutely amazing.”

An environmentalist, Kej added, ‘’In India, we’ve got a saying called as Vasudhaiva Kudumbakam’, which literally means the world is one family. And when we think about the world as one family, the only thing that comes to our mind is living in peace within the human species. But we have to go further than that and live in peace with all entities on this planet, whether it is the animals, the wildlife, the forests, the elements of nature-that is the water we breathe in, the air we breathe and the land we walk on. ‘Divine Tides’ is all about co-existence.’’

Shah won the award for her album ‘A Colourful World’. Shah, based in New York, has worked with AR Rahman for Slumdog Millionaire. Sharing the news on Instagram, Shah, fondly called Falu wrote in the caption: “I have no words to describe today’s magic. What an honor to perform for the opening number of the GRAMMY Premier Ceremony, and then take home a statue on behalf of all the incredible people who worked on A Colorful World. We are humbled and thank the Recording Academy for this tremendous recognition. ❤️ THANK YOU!’’

Shah, who spent her childhood in Mumbai, trained under renowned musician Ustad Sultan Khan.
