Actress Kangana Ranaut is facing the heat on social media for her recent comments on India’s independence. In a video that is being shared on Twitter, the actress is seen saying that India got real independence in 2014, and that what we got in 1947 was ‘bheek’ [alms].

The actress, who was speaking at a media conclave, is being called out by Twitter users who said her Padma Shri should be taken back for insulting freedom fighters. Some of them even said the actress should be booked for sedition.

Actor Swara Bhasker reacted to the clip and wrote, "Who are the idiots who are clapping is what I want to know."

In January this year, Kangana was called out for allegedly glorifying Nathuram Godse, the man who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi. On Gandhi’s death anniversary on January 30, the actress had posted few photos of Godse and tweeted, "Every story has three sides to it, yours, mine and the truth .... A good story teller neither commits nor conceals... and that’s why our text books suck ... full of exposition #NathuramGodse"

Kangana was awarded the Padma Shri on Monday. She had said that the award is a reply to all those who question her statements on national issues.

Kangana, who has always claimed to be a nationalist, triggers controversies with her comments and social media posts. Earlier this year, Twitter permanently suspended her account for "repeated violations of Twitter rules”. This came after the actress posted a series of tweets on the alleged violence that took place in West Bengal after the assembly election results were declared. Her account was briefly suspended after she posted a tweet in reference to the controversy surrounding Amazon Prime Video series Tandav. In the tweet, the actor had used the phrase "time to take their heads off", which was reported by many users as offensive.

Speaking at the conclave, the actress said that in the next five years, she sees herself being married with kids. On being asked if there is someone special in her life, Kangana said a polite “Yes.” When asked about the identity of her partner, Kangana said, “Everyone will know soon.”
