‘Soorarai Pottru’ selected for Shanghai International Film Festival

Suriya-starrer Soorari Pottru has been selected for the 24th Shanghai International Film Festival under Panorama Section. Rajsekar Pandian, the co-producer at 2D Entertainments, took to his Twitter handle recently to announce the news.

The Shanghai International Film Festival will take place this year from June 11 to June 20.

The Sudha Kongara-directorial is based on the life of Captain Gopinath, who founded budget airline Air Deccan. Soorarai Pottru became the first Tamil film to release on an OTT platform after the pandemic-induced lockdown and subsequent closing of theatres. The film also features Aparna Balamurali, Urvashi,Paresh Rawal among others.

The film had also made its way into the list of 366 films eligible for Best Picture in the recent Academy Awards. However, it later fell out of the race.  Soorarai Pottru was also selected as one among ten Indian films to be screened under the Best Foreign Film category at the 78th Golden Globe Awards.

Recently, the movie, with a 9.1 rating became the third film in the list of IMDb’s Top 1000 Movies.
