Kartik Aaryan 'punishing' his sister for making bad rotis attracts criticism on social media

The lockdown is making people bored. While many may be catching up on the shows on Netflix and finishing those books on the 'must read' list, there are others, especially celebrities, who come up with work out videos, cooking videos and the like, to keep themselves active and their fans engaged.

Bollywood actor Kartik Aaryan came out with a video on TikTok that has now attracted much criticism. In the video, the actor is seen punishing his sister Kritika Tiwari for making bad roties. In the scene enacted by the duo, the actor is unhappy with the rotis given to him and catches her by her ponytail, spins her around and flings her from the terrace.

However, this casual enactment of of domestic violence, sexism and misogyny did not go down well with a section of social media users who called out the actor for the same. Following the backlash, the video has been removed. Here are some reactions to the video.

"I have begun to believe that thus is a new PR strategy for many. Put out misogynistic content or even hire a multiple #MeToo accused & then wait for the feminists to speak up & protest & thus amplify? Free ka publicity. Case in point Kabir Singh, Indian Idol & maybe this too," wrote singer Sona Mohapatra on Twitter.

"Idiotic .. someone should tell him since he is too dumb to understand that a lot of responsible Film industry members have put out a message against domestic violence and this is NOT FUNNY . But then who are we taking to," wrote one user.

“Is he suggesting that the girl fell down from the balcony & he wanted to only save the belan?? Can we throw him out of our planet please?! Or best-out of our solar system,” wrote another.
