Veteran actress Vidya Sinha passed away on Thursday. She was 71 years old.

Sinha was admitted to Criticare hospital in Juhu, Mumbai last week after she complained of breathing problems. She was suffering from lung and heart disorders and had been on ventilator in the ICU.

She began her career as a model when she was spotted by Basu Chatterjee, who went on to direct her in some of his critically acclaimed films.

Sinha is best known for her performances alongside Amol Palekar in Rajnigandha (1974) and Chhoti Si Baat (1976) and in mainstream commercial space for Pati Patni Aur Woh (1978) among others. Her last notable appearance on the silver screen was in Salman Khan’s Bodyguard (2011).

She has also acted in a few TV shows such as Kaavyanjali, Qubool Hai and Kulfi Kumar Bajewala.

She married Venkateshwaran Iyer in 1968 and adopted a daughter Janhavi. After the death of Iyer in 1996, she married Netaji Bhimrao Salunkhe in 2001. However, the couple got divorced in 2009.
