'The Lion King' becomes fourth Disney film to cross $1 billion this year

Disney's live-action remake of The Lion King has crossed Rs 100 cr in India, and according to reports, the film has crossed $1 billion globally. It is the fourth Disney film—after Avengers: Endgame, Captain Marvel and Aladdin— to cross this mark globally this year.

Disney has had a terrific run this year with Avengers: Endgame dethroning Avatar to become highest-grossing movie of all time. The Lion King is still running strong at the box office. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to share the box office figures.

The Jon Favreau-directed remake of the 1994 animation classic released globally on July 19. The film featured a stellar voice cast—James Earl James as Mufasa, Donald Glover as Simba, Beyonce as Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, John Oliver, Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner as Zazu, Pumbaa and Timon. To draw more audience, the film also released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi, with popular actors voicing these characters. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan lend voice to Mufasa, and his son Aryan to Simba in the Hindi version.
