Vijay Sethupathi opens up about his transgender character in 'Super Deluxe'

Come Friday, Tamil movie lovers will be in for a cinematic treat. Super Deluxe, starring Vijay Sethupathi in the lead and directed by Thiagarajan Kumararaja of Aaranya Kaandam fame, is sure to find favour with cinema goers as the movie promises to offer some great performance from Vijay Sethupathi.

The actor, in a recent interview to The New Indian Express revealed that he was so excited about the character of the transgender he is playing in the movie that he could not even sleep after signing up for the movie.

Speaking about Super Deluxe, Vijay Sethupathi said the movie is about one day in the lives of five characters. He said he was so impressed by the character of Shilpa that he begged the director for the role. Calling the character "pure", he said he surrendered to the character fully and Shilpa became his teacher.

In the interview, Vijay Sethupathi said he is of the view that characters should communicate with the actor.

In another interview to The Hindu, the actor, talking about Shilpa, said she is the friend he never had. He claimed that when he was offered the role, he was not sure if he could pull off the character. He decided to blindly trust the director, he said, adding that Thiagarajan Kumararaja is "brutally honest" about the work.

Vijay Sethupathi said Shilpa was completely fictional and had to be created and crafted from the scratch.

He further said when he read Shilpa's dialogue, he got a sense of her world and the rest of the inputs about the character was given by the director.

Vijay Sethupathi claimed that playing Shilpa helped him to overcome his fears and changed his "perspective about life". There were times he thought what if he woke up one day and found himself to be a transgender, he told The Hindu in the interview.

Super Deluxe also stars Fahadh Faasil, Samantha, Ramya Krishnan and Mysskin.
