Odiyan, veteran Malayalam actor Mohanlal's highly-anticipated film from 2018, is still continuing its theatrical run. The Shrikumar Menon directorial, which crossed the Rs 100-crore mark even before its release, had come under sharp criticism from viewers who felt the movie did not live up to the director's promises. It also received much flak on social media, though individual performances were appreciated. And now, Odiyan is set to return in a different avatar—Iravilum Pakalilum Odiyan, a documentary on the myth of Odiyan, directed by Novin Vasudev.

Mohanlal confirmed the same on his official Facebook page and also shared the first look of the poster.

The film Odiyan revolved around the centuries-old myth of the Odiyan clan, popular in northern Kerala. It is believed Odiyans were shape-shifters who had the power to transform into the shape of animals in split seconds, and scare people to death literally. The kings of darkness, Odiyans, moved around at night. However, when electricity brightened the nights in the remote hamlets, it is said to have driven Odiyans to 'extinction'.

Mohanlal is currently awaiting the release of his next film Lucifer. Another eagerly awaited film, Lucifer marks actor Prithviraj's directorial debut.
