Moral policing seems to be part of India's cultural psyche. The army of trolls and custodians of Indian culture never miss a chance to remind celebrities and other women on the internet and everywhere else the need to toe the line when it comes to the clothes, opinions and everything in between. Anything that they deem not in line with the popular opinion and 'Indian culture' is usually met with derision, derogatory remarks and even death threats.

The latest victim of this prevalent culture of moral policing was actor Andrea Jeremiah whose recent photoshoot is trending on social media. The actor posed topless as a mermaid for a popular magazine. As expected, her 'topless- mermaid look' didn't go well with many.

Her Instagram account, where the photo was posted, was replete with rude comments.

While some praised her boldness and look and even called her 'Aquawoman' , a lot many claimed that such photos set a bad example for the coming generation. There were those who said they were disappointed with the actor's decision to go topless, while others called her names.

The pictures were captured by Sunder Ramu.
