The Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL), a lab under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), carried out high-calibre bomb testing in Ramgarh of Panchkula district in Haryana on Sunday.
According to news agency ANI, the successful testing of the bomb was carried out under the supervision of Indian Air Force officials.
Officials clarified that the trial was carried out in strict adherence to established safety protocols.
Further details of the trial remain unknown.
Ahead of the trial, the TBRL, district authorities and police had placed the area on high alert and implemented enhanced security measures. The area was strictly monitored prior to the exercise as part of the safety arrangements.
Authorities had estimated that fragments from the explosive device could travel up to 1.5 km during the test.
As a precaution, an area within a 2-km radius was designated as a sensitive zone.
Residents of Bhanu and Billa villages were advised to remain on alert and strictly follow safety instructions issued by the administration, say media reports.
What is TBRL
TBRL is a lab under the DRDO that plays a major role in the development and evaluation of explosives, warheads and ammunition systems for the armed forces.
The laboratory is involved in the design, production, processing and characterisation of a range of high-explosive compositions. It also conducts blast, lethality and fragmentation studies of warheads, artillery shells and other ammunition.
In addition, TBRL undertakes captive flight trials of bombs, missiles and airborne systems, besides carrying out ballistic testing of protective equipment such as body armour, vehicle armour and helmets against small-arms fire.
