Starlink, the satellite internet service provider from Elon Musk-owned SpaceX, said on Tuesday that the internet pricing plans for India earlier found on its website were a "config glitch".

The India tariff rates for Starlink's powerful internet were released on Monday, which came after months of regulatory groundwork.

However, Starlink's VP of Business Operations Lauren Dreyer clarified on X that those tariff rates were only "dummy test data" that came up on the website because of the "config glitch", and did not reflect what Starlink India's pricing would be.

"The Starlink India website is not live, service pricing for customers in India has not yet been announced, and we are not taking orders from customers in India," she added, saying that the Musk-owned internet provider was still waiting on final-stage government approval to "turn service (and the website) on".

Starlink, which had been waiting for regulatory approval to set foot in India since 2022, finally got the green light from the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) in July this year.

IN-SPACe, which regulates private sector activities related to space, had granted approval for Musk's satellite internet venture for a period of five years. Starlink had already been granted a telecom licence by then.

As per the "dummy test data", the household plan was priced at Rs 8,600 per month, with a required hardware kit—including a router, satellite dish, and related equipment—costing Rs 34,000.

New customers were also promised unlimited bandwidth, and there was also a 30-day trial period to encourage more customers to come onboard.

Most importantly, Starlink had promised 99.9 per cent uptime—a virtually uninterrupted internet connection—due to the "weather-resistant" nature of their satellite services.

"We're eager to connect the people of India with Starlink's high-speed internet," Dreyer wrote.
