Frontdesk, an online rental platform, laid off its entire workforce in just two minutes.
According to media reports, all the 200 employees of the start-up, including full-time and part-time workers, were laid off during a "two-minute Google Meet call".
Business Insider reported that the CEO of the company, Jesse DePinto, told Frontdesk employees that the company would be "filing for a state receivership, an alternative to bankruptcy".
The layoffs come barely months after the company, which was founded in 2017, acquired its rival Zencity.
While the company hasn't responded to the reports of layoffs, TechCrunch reported that calling the number given on the website of Frontdesk elicited the following recorded message: “Currently, Frontdesk is unavailable. If you have a reservation, please seek alternative accommodations and expect to be contacted within the next two weeks.”
In fact, the company had posted job openings on LinkedIn two months ago.
Frontdesk used to manage more than 1,000 furnished apartments across the US.
