A sharp reduction in LPG prices in India has seen the rate per 19kg cylinder in Delhi go down by Rs 122, as oil and gas companies reduced commercial rates.

A 19kg cylinder in Delhi now costs Rs 1,473.5. However, the price of 14.2kg cylinders is unchanged at Rs 809, 36 per cent higher than the previous year’s rates.

While prices fell in the initial aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, they began rising since November 2020. LPG prices are generally revised at the beginning of every month.

In March alone, the price went up by Rs 100 after four price hikes in a single month, leading to the cost of both subsidised and non-subsidised LPG cylinders getting dearer. It came as petrol and diesel prices recorded constant hikes. Fuel prices in India have already breached the Rs 100 per litre mark in some cities.
