Flipkart co-founder Sachin Bansal's wife Priya Bansal has filed a case of dowry harassment against her husband.

A first information report (FIR), filed on 28 February at Koramangala police station in Bengaluru against the entrepreneur, names his father Sat Prakash Agarwal, brother Nitin Bansal and mother Kiran Bansal for demanding "dowry" and gifts at the time of the wedding.

In her complaint Priya alleged that her father had spent ₹50 lakh on the wedding and in addition, gifted ₹11 lakh in cash to Sachin. She further alleged that her husband demanded to transfer her properties in his name, and also had to suffer harassment from in-laws at her marital home.

“Post wedding, it was decided that I will stay with my husband. Before the wedding, in-laws visited my home and asked for more dowry. My husband and in-laws have been giving me mental and physical torture since the wedding for dowry. When my sister Radhika Goyal was in Delhi, Sachin had sexually assaulted her. Sachin had tried to transfer all properties in my name to his name and when I refused, Sachin had physically assaulted me on 20 October 2019. I have been tortured mentally and physically by in-laws for dowry," Priya Bansal stated in the FIR.

Priya, a dentist, runs a clinic in Bangalore, and together they have a 10-year-old son.

It is learned that police will soon begin investigation into the allegations raised by Priya under two sections of the Indian Penal Code—498A (Husband or relative of a woman subjecting her to cruelty and driving victim to suicide or cause grave injury), Section 3/4 of Dowry Prohibition Act

Court will take up the anticipatory bail application filed by Sachin Bansal on Thursday.
