Cab hailing company Uber has laid off about 10 per cent of its employees in India as part of its move to trim the global work force, reported the Economic Times. Earlier, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, in an email to his employees, informed that the company has laid off about 350 from its work force globally, including from Uber Eats.

The Indian terminations will impact all of Uber's businesses in the country, including its online food-delivery vertical under UberEats, the Economic Times report added. It is estimated that Uber has about 2,700 employees in India alone.

According to an Uber spokesman, the job cuts, the third round in recent months, were focused in the autonomous vehicle unit, operations, recruiting and customer support. Reportedly, 70 per cent of the laid off staff are those working in the US and Canada.

Since July, the company has cut more than 1,000 jobs, more than two per cent of its global work force. In July, Uber laid off 400 people from its marketing department while in September, it cut 435 people from its engineering and product groups, reported The New York Times

The move comes in the backdrop of Khosrowshahi's steps to reduce their staffs in an attempt to reorganise the ride hailing company that competes with Ola in India.
