The Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G, MIUI 11, the new bezel-free range of Mi TVs and the concept 108MP Mi Mix Alpha were announced today at an event in Beijing, China.

The Mi 9 Pro 5G is the company’s second 5G device after the Mi Mix 3 5G which was launched in February. The Mi 9 Pro features a Snapdragon 855+ processor, 12Gb of Ram and 512GB of storage, with a 4,500 mAh battery powering it all. In addition, it has 45W wired and 30W wireless fast-charging. In addition, the phone can charge other devices as well with reverse wireless charging at 10W.

At $520, the Mi 9 Pro 5G will be among the cheapest 5G devices in the market, although CEO Lei Jun said he would have liked to have introduced it at an even lower price.

The concept Mi Mix Alpha features a wraparound a display, a staggering 108MP camera and is made from a single piece of sapphire glass and aerospace-grade titanium. With no buttons on the sides of the device, the phone instead uses pressure-sensitivity to mimic the feel of a button using haptic touch.

The Mi 9 Pro will retail by early October for around $600, while the Mi Mix Alpha is likely to be priced around CNY19,999 or $2,820.

MIUI 11, based on Android 10, features a host of improvements, including a softer visual style, dark mode, and always-on display capability. In general, the UI received an overhaul on everything from the animation to the notification system.

The new Mi Go Travel Suite promises to help with ticket booking, currency conversion and an extreme power-saving mode, geared at travellers.

The Mi Work suite includes WPS office apps and file management systems as well as screencasting support.

A new line of bezel-less Mi TVs was announced in the 43-inch, 55-inch and 55-inch categories.

According to 5G High-Level Forum report published in August 2018, India is targeting a roll-out of 5G in 2020. However, with spectrum yet to be issued, and potential legal hurdles awaiting Huawei’s proposed 5G infrastructure in India, that date may be pushed forward.
