Surat-based diamond merchant gives 600 cars to employees as Diwali gift

Savji Dholakia, the Surat-based diamond merchant has done it again! At a time when industrial sector is complaining about slow down, leading diamond firm, Hari Krishna Exports led by Dholakia, gifted 600 cars to its employees as Diwali bonus on Thursday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed over keys of the cars to some of the employees at a function held in New Delhi.

In a social media post, Savji Dholakia, one of the partners of the firm, said that the on-road price of the cars gifted, Renault KWID and Maruti Suzuki Celerio were up to Rs 4.4 lakh and Rs. 5.38 lakh, respectively.

Pintu Dholakia, son of one of the partners, told THE WEEK that for the last five years the company has devised a loyalty incentive bonus and it is related to the skills of the employees and has nothing to do with good or bad market condition. He remarked that performers are always performers regardless the market situation.

According to sources, the company has observed that the employees perform even better during the times the market is bad. The employeee performance is assessed from one Diwali to the next.

The firm has an annual turnover of 1.1 billion dollars and 90 per cent of it comes from exports. The employee strength of the company is around 5500.

It is not the first time that Hari Krishna Exports has given costly gifts to its employees. In 2016, the firm had given 400 flats and 1,260 cars to its employees.

Similarly, in 2015, the company had given more than 490 cars and 200 flats to the employees, sources said.
