Rope shoulder and back extension

  • MODEL: YUKTHA JAYAGOPAL

The trunk is bound by the hip girdle and the shoulder girdle. The legs are connected to the hip girdle and the arms, to the shoulder girdle. An important movement for hips, trunk and arms is extension. Here is a posture done with the help of ropes to provide this movement. The posture helps to improve flexibility of the hips, back, neck and shoulders. The organs in the pelvic, abdomen and chest cavities also get a good stretch. It also helps to keep the lower back and neck in good condition.

Caution: Ensure that the rope is of mountaineering quality and that the window bars are strong enough to take the weight.

METHOD:

* Knot the ropes on to the window bars at a height of 3-4 feet, about 1 feet apart.

* Sit upright on your heels with back to the wall and in line with the ropes.

* Kneel down, and take the arms back and hold the ropes with both hands.

* Lowering the hips, gently move the feet towards the wall keeping the feet 6 inches apart.

* Press the toes against the wall.

* Gripping the ropes firmly, gently bend backward.

* Keep both arms straight, open the chest and lift the head.

* Stay for about 20 to 30 seconds.

* Slowly lift the hips, release the ropes and return to start.

* Relax and repeat.
