Three people sustained injuries in a freak accident in Karachi’s Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC).

According to media reports, the accident occurred after a judge asked the police constable if he knew how a grenade, which was brought to the courtroom as evidence, worked. The constable, instead of explaining the technicalities involved in the explosion, chose to pull out the pin, resulting in a loud explosion.

The constable and court clerk were among those who sustained injuries in the incident. Those injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital and are expected to recover.

Usually, an explosive device that is produced before the court as evidence is defused. However, the grenade in question wasn't deactivated before becoming an exhibit in the court.

The police and paramilitary forces in the nearby area rushed to the court after hearing the loud explosion, fearing it to be a terrorist attack. The security forces were also put on high alert.
