Angry Pope Francis scolds fan in Mexico

WAITING FOR THE WORD (File) The incident took place in the western city of Morella in Mexico

"No seas egoísta. Qué te pasó, no seas egoísta", the usually calm and composed head of the Catholic church yelled.

Translated as 'Don't be selfish, don't be selfish', this was Pope Francis' reaction when he was pulled by an overenthusiastic devotee who was part of a crowd of supporters gathered to be blessed by him during his visit to Mexico.

According to media reports, the incident took place in the western city of Morella in Mexico after Pope Francis celebrated a holy mass for the young people.

The Pope nearly fell on a wheelchair-bound person when he was pulled and he found it hard to control his irritation.

Director of the Vatican Press Office Father Federico Lombardi said later that the Pope's reaction was only "natural."

“It's a very human reaction, very normal... anyone in a similar situation would have reacted that way, especially after a long day of activities,” he was quoted as saying.

The Pope was hardly affected by the incident as he continued with greeting the crowd, Father Lombardi said.
