To err is human, to forgive is divine. In a country where cricket is a religion and cricketers are often treated as gods, it seems, one such 'god' forgot the adage.

India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who had a decent outing with the ball in the recently-concluded Test series against Sri Lanka, shares his second name with former India swashbuckling batsman Ajay Jadeja. The latter represented India in 15 Tests and 196 ODIs, before match-fixing allegations cut short a promising career.

After having taken 10 wickets in the three-match series, Ravindra Jadeja took to Twitter to vent his ire on a fan who congratulated him for his impressive bowling display in the last Test against the Lankans in Delhi, mistakenly referring to him as 'Ajay'.

It might have been a genuine slip of tongue by the fan, but Jadeja seemed to be in no mood to relent. Instead of taking it in the stride, he went on to call the fan 'gavaar', which means illiterate.

Expectedly, Twitterati did not take his outburst too kindly, with a couple of users urging him not to be “over smart” and “cocky”.

Though a few users chose to see the funny side of it, and others chose to rub it in, calling him 'Ajay' repeatedly, a few reminded him to imbibe some humility from legends of the game like Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag.

Jadeja has played 35 Tests, 136 ODIs and 40 T20Is for India.
