India Open: Sindhu enters semis; Praneeth, Kashyap crash out

Top-seeded Indian shuttler P.V. Sindhu shrugged off a second-game lapse to beat eighth seed Beatriz Corrales and reach the women's singles semifinals of the India Open. Sindhu, world number four, defeated her Spanish rival 21-12 19-21 21-11 in the quarterfinals.

It took Sindhu 35 minutes to down her rival, ranked 36 in the world.

Sindhu will next take on Thai third seed Ratchanok Intanon, who knocked out seventh seed Yip Pui Yin 21-11 21-11 in her last-eight clash.

Meanwhile, B. Sai Praneeth suffered a major blow as he bowed out of the India Open after going down in straight games against Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals.

Third-seed Tien Chen proved to be too good for the Praneeth, who clearly wasn't at his best, as he knocked down the Indian 21-15, 21-13 in a last-eight clash that lasted 43 minutes.

Parupalli Kashyap, another Indian in the fray, also crashed out of the tournament after slumping to a 16-21, 18-21 defeat at the hands of China's Qiao Bin in another quarterfinal clash of the men's singles event.

As a result, Tien Chen will now meet Qiao Bin in the semifinals of the tournament.

Among others, top seeded Indonesian Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo shut out the fighting Indian men's doubles pair of Manu Attri and B. Sumeeth Reddy 21-19 21-19, while sixth seeded women's doubles pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and N. Sikki Reddy lost 17-21 21-23 to Chinese pair of Du Yue and Li Yinhui.

Seventh-seeded Indian pair of Jakkampudi Meghana and Poorvisha S. Ram lost 10-21 15-21 to second seeded Thai pair of Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai.
