Saritha S Nair and Biju Radhakrishnan, accused in the notorious solar scandal that caused a political uproar in Kerala, were sentenced to three years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 each by a Perumbavoor judicial magistrate court. Biju and Saritha are the first and second accused in the case.
Sajad, the petitioner, had contested he paid the duo Rs 20 lakh for a solar plant and a windmill in Nagercoil – which never materialised.
The earlier allegations raised by the accused Saritha S.Nair had caused nothing short of a political earthquake. Her revelations that several UDF and Congress bigwigs were involved in the scam, apart from her allegations of sexual assault against numerous Congress leaders, had been touted as one of the biggest reasons for the Congress rout in the elections that followed.
This is the first verdict in the solar scam case.
