Former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh has made a major revelations when he said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is planning to propose Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan as the next President of India.

Singh, who was expelled from the SP along with his close associate Jaya Prada in 2010, made this claim while talking to Zee News' India24x7 news channel. He said he was introduced to Modi through Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

India's current and 13th President Pranab Kumar Mukherjee was elected in July 2012. The President of India is indirectly elected by the people through elected members of both the houses of Parliament and the legislative assemblies of New Delhi and Puducherry and serves for a renewable term of five years.

Amar Singh said it was he who introduced Amitabh Bachchan to Narendra Modi when the latter was the Gujarat chief minister. The meeting, he said, was in connection with Paa film.

"After Modi-Bachchan's meeting for Paa, Narendra Modi has asked Amitabh Bachchan to become brand ambassdoor of Gujarat," Amar Singh claimed in the interview, as per a report in the Zee News.

The report also pointed out that Amar Singh was once very close to the Bachchans.
