An unemployed MBA graduate in Mumbai has been arrested for allegedly trying to extort a pizza delivery chain, by threatening to sue it for “confusing” him into eating a non-vegetarian pizza, reports said.

Anil Ozha, 26, a resident of Mhada Colony in Ekta Nagar Kandivli, was arrested when he was accepting Rs 25,000 from the pizza outlet manager.

According to the report, Ozha, a vegetarian, ordered home two vegetarian and two non-veg pizzas but inadvertently ate a pizza with meat from an “unlabelled” box. He filed a complaint with the online portal of the outlet and when the company got in touch with him, he demanded a compensation for having hurt his religious sentiments.

The report said Ozha repeatedly called the manager of the outlet and demanded Rs 1 crore as compensation. When he was told, it was unreasonable, he reportedly told the manager that he would put everything up on social media and go to the press.

“The manager Prashant Tambe met with Ozha after which he negotiated the amount to Rs 50 lakh and then to Rs 10 lakh. Tambe later agreed to pay Rs 25,000 of the first installment,” Mukund Pawar, senior inspector at Kandivli police station, was quoted as saying.

The manager, meanwhile, approached the police and reported about the extortion attempt. The police then laid a trap and caught Ozha red-handed taking the money.
