Even as Congress chief Sonia Gandhi came to the defence of son-in-law Robert Vadra, who was under the scanner for his alleged links with controversial arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari, reports now emerge that Bhandari was in constant touch with Vadra and a few other prominent Congress leaders.
According to media reports, officials of the Income Tax Department confirmed that there were email exchanges between Bhandari and Vadra and the latter's assistant Manoj Arora.
One of the mails deals with the topic of designing the interiors of an apartment in London for which the estimated amount was 35,000 pounds.
The department is waiting for replies from different countries to learn about the various property deals of the 'infamous' arms dealer. Only after the replies come in, a clear picture of Bhandari's dealings, which could possibly implicate Vadra, would emerge although, the latter's lawyers have categorically denied him having any kind of dealings with Bhandari.
Meanwhile, according to an Intelligence Bureau (IB) report that came out in 2011, Vadra was among the people who Bhandari was in regular contact with. There were many calls made from Bhandari's mobile to a number that is registered in the name of Blue Bridge Trading Private Limited—a company owned Vadra.
Other Congress leaders who Bhandari was in touch with include former coal minister Shriprakash Jaiswal, S.P.Y. Reddy and another associate of Sonia Gandhi from her constituency Rae Bareilly.
