Ranchi, Nov 8 (PTI) Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar and Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Sunday greeted people on the occasion of Diwali, as authorities stepped up security and fire safety measures across the state to ensure peaceful celebrations.
In a social media post, Gangwar extended his "heartfelt congratulations and best wishes" to people on the occasion, expressing hope that the festival would bring happiness, peace and prosperity to every household.
"May the light of love, harmony and positivity illuminate every home and courtyard," he said.
Soren also greeted people on the occasion of Diwali and Kali Puja.
Meanwhile, the state has stepped up monitoring of firecracker sales and put fire services on high alert, officials said.
Under an order issued by the Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board (JSPCB), firecrackers can be burst only between 8 pm and 10 pm on Diwali night.
The sale of firecrackers emitting noise below the prescribed limit of 125 decibels has been permitted across all districts, the board said.
The JSPCB warned that violations of its guidelines would invite legal action under relevant penal provisions and the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981.
District administrations have also strengthened security arrangements to prevent fire-related accidents and other untoward incidents, a senior official said.
Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri said fire safety was the administration's top priority.
"The administration has issued a set of guidelines for firecracker sellers and revellers. Adequate personnel have been assigned to the fire wing to address staff shortage and ensure quick response to emergencies," he said in a statement.
The district administration has also asked Kali Puja organisers to follow safety advisories and urged people not to forward messages that could trigger communal tension.
Ranchi City SP Paras Rana said around 800 additional security personnel had been deployed across the state capital during the festive period.
"Bike patrols will be conducted in 12 sensitive and crowded areas to ensure a quick response to emergencies," he added.
