Beed, Nov 7 (PTI) A 28-year-old police aspirant who had complained about the alleged fraudulent selection of an applicant into the force under the sports quota, triggering an inquiry, committed suicide in Maharashtra's Beed district after recording a voice note naming those responsible for driving him to take the extreme step, an official said on Saturday.

Vaibhav Chhagan Chavan (28), a resident of Navgan Rajuri in Beed tehsil, was found hanging from a tree near a temple on the outskirts of Imampur village on November 5, the official said, adding that he had recorded the voice note on November 1.

Chavan, who had been preparing for the police recruitment examinations for the past three-and-a-half years, had complained recently about the selection of one Nagnath Sable under the sports quota. Chavan had alleged Sable had submitted a sports certificate from Kurash association and that it was fake, the official informed.

"He had lodged an official complaint with the Commissioner of Sports and Youth Services in Balewadi, Pune, resulting in an inquiry into the alleged fake sports certificate scam. Chavan's family has told police that he was being harassed and intimidated for being a whistleblower," the official said.

A case of abetment of suicide and other offences was registered against Sable, Kurash association and others under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on Friday night, he said.

"The voice note has been sent for forensic analysis. A probe into the alleged fake sports certificate racket is also underway. No arrest has been made so far," Beed Rural police station inspector Somnath Jadhav said.
