Chennai, Nov 6 (PTI) In a significant step towards bolstering regional disaster response, India and Myanmar successfully concluded their inaugural bilateral Tri-Services Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) exercise, ‘Rahat Mitra’, in Chennai.
Coordinated under the aegis of the Indian Navy, the two-day exercise saw the participation of over 300 personnel from the armed forces of both nations, according to a press release.
The maiden joint drill, themed “Together for Humanity, Stronger through Partnership”, aimed to enhance interoperability, mutual trust, and coordination during crisis situations.
Operating alongside the Navy and Air Force, the Indian Army showcased its specialised HADR capabilities. Army personnel, including Flood Relief Columns and Engineer Task Forces, conducted practical demonstrations of critical rescue operations, dewatering techniques, and bridge-laying to restore connectivity for affected communities.
The professional exchanges allowed troops to share best practices and refine coordinated disaster response procedures. Officials noted that 'Rahat Mitra' underscores India’s steadfast commitment to its ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and the strategic vision of MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions).
The joint exercise highlights the shared resolve of both neighbouring countries to uphold regional stability and ensure swift, coordinated humanitarian assistance during natural calamities.
