Lucknow, Oct 30 (PTI) The Allahabad High Court on Friday sought the Uttar Pradesh State Election Commission's response over the alleged illegal deletion of names of 32 people from the panchayat electoral roll in Balrampur district.
The court also issued notices to 47 people who were allegedly included in the panchayat voter list wrongfully.
A Lucknow bench of justices Alok Mathur and A K Chaudhary passed the order on a writ petition filed by Santosh Kumar and 31 others.
The court directed the state government and the State Election Commission to file their respective affidavits explaining their stand on the matter.
The next hearing in the case has been fixed for December 15.
Earlier, a Lucknow bench had sought an explanation from the Uttar Pradesh State Election Commission over the deletion of 138 names from the final voter list in Amethi, despite their inclusion in the draft electoral roll.
Justice Jaspreet Singh passed the direction on Tuesday while hearing a writ petition filed by 138 residents of Gopalpur village under Mahmoodpur Benipur Gram Panchayat in Amethi.
The petitioners submitted that their names had figured in the electoral rolls for nearly a decade and were also included in the draft list.
However, the names were omitted from the final electoral roll without prior notice to them, they alleged.
