Aligarh (UP), May 26 (PTI) A dispute over an alleged overdue payment of Rs 600 led to the death of a middle-aged three-wheeler driver who, along with his wife, was allegedly assaulted by three persons in Aligarh, police said on Tuesday.
The incident took place late Monday night near the Sarsol outpost under the Bannadevi police station area.
According to Superintendent of Police (City) Aditya Bansal, the deceased, identified as Yameen, was unwell and was on his way to a hospital with his wife, Salma, when he approached his neighbour, Anis, for payment of Rs 600 allegedly owed to him.
An argument reportedly broke out between the two, following which Anis and two others allegedly assaulted Yameen and his wife. Family members alleged that Yameen was also hit on the head during the attack.
Police said Salma and his brother later reached the police station to lodge a complaint. However, Yameen, who was with them, collapsed while the complaint was being registered.
He was rushed to the district hospital where doctors declared him brought dead, police said.
A case of murder has been registered against Anis, Munees, and Nafis, all of whom are absconding, they added.
