Lucknow, Jul 31 (PTI) In a suspected case of suicide, the wife of a senior police officer was found dead at their official residence here, officials said on Thursday.
Nitesh Singh, in her late thirties, was the wife of Mukesh Pratap Singh, an additional superintendent of police posted with the CB-CID here, a police officer said.
"The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon when Mukesh Pratap was not present at the house," Additional DCP (Central), Mamta Rani Chaudhary, told PTI.
Police personnel who entered the house in the Mahanagar police station area found Nitesh hanging from a hook on the ceiling.
While Nitesh was reportedly suffering from health issues, the deceased's brother told police that her sister and her husband had a troubled relationship.
"The elder son of my sister, who is 12 years old, is mentally challenged for which my brother-in-law used to taunt her. She was so upset that on July 29, she tried to kill her son by pressing a pillow on his mouth.
"I spoke to her that day, and she told me that her husband fought with her because of their child, forcing her to attempt to kill her son," the deceased's brother claimed.
Police sources said the minor boy was sent to his grandparents' house on July 30.
Nitesh’s brother also accused Mukesh Pratap of having an affair with another woman.
Chaudhary, however, declined to comment on the allegations, saying the matter is under investigation.
