Hyderabad, Jul 29 (PTI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday favoured initiating reforms (in civic administration and related issues) to make Hyderabad pollution-free.
Reddy, who held a meeting with officials of municipal administration and urban development, said a permanent solution should be found to address pollution in the 'core urban region' of Hyderabad (up to the city outskirts).
He suggested studying the civic problems in cities like Delhi, Bengaluru and Chennai and preparing plans to ensure that Hyderabad does not face such problems, according to an official release.
Reddy, who also suggested preparing plans to meet the city's requirements in the next 25 years, favoured putting in place underground drainage and underground electricity cabling.
During the meeting, he also stressed infrastructure development in the city, the release added.
An official release said the CM directed officials to take steps to shift polluting industries from the 'core city' to the Outer Ring Road (ORR).
During the meeting, he instructed officials to accelerate works on the Musi Riverfront project, from Himayat Sagar lake to 'Gandhi Sarovar', and proposed a landmark structure like India Gate, Gateway of India, Charminar at Kothwalguda Junction.
As a first step to make Hyderabad pollution-free, he ordered a ban on single-use plastic and directed strict measures to prevent dumping of construction waste in the city.
Reviewing the performance of the Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board, he asked officials to introduce reforms in the water supply and sewage system to provide better services to city's residents.
Reddy told officials to expedite Metro Rail works in the 'old city' of Hyderabad as funds have already been released.
