Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jul 24 (PTI) Police have registered a case against an undertrial prisoner after he was found possessing a mobile phone inside a jail in Beed district of Maharashtra, an official said on Thursday.
The authorities later seized the phone from the prisoner, he said.
"Rafiq Sayyed is lodged in Beed jail as part of his judicial custody in a case. On Tuesday evening, he was found moving suspiciously behind the kitchen of the jail. He was later found carrying a mobile phone hidden in his undergarment. The phone did not have a SIM card," the official said.
He was presented before the jail authorities and a case was then registered at the Shivajinagar police station under sections 42, 45 (12) of The Prisons Act 1894 for possessing prohibitory articles within a prison and section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for disobeying a lawful order duly promulgated by a public servant, he said.
