15 years on court hands three-year RI to former WR divisional engineer for accepting Rs 5 000 bribe

Ahmedabad, July 21 (PTI) Fifteen years after the then divisional engineer of Western Railway's Bhavnagar division was booked for accepting a Rs 5,000 bribe, the special CBI court here on Monday sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment for three years and imposed a Rs 1 lakh fine.
    The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered a case in July 2010 against Harish Kishore Gupta for demanding and accepting a bribe from a railway contractor.
    The Special Judge for CBI cases in Ahmedabad has sentenced Gupta to three years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 1 lakh, the CBI stated in a release.
    The complaint stated that Gupta had sought the bribe for issuing a work order amounting to Rs 19.91 lakh and extending the work completion deadline, the CBI stated.
    Gupta was arrested a day after a case was registered against him for bribery and misconduct, and searches were conducted at his residence and office. The chargesheet was filed in June 2011.
