Mumbai, Jul 15 (PTI) A case of a government official being `honey trapped' was registered in Thane district recently but it was later withdrawn through mutual agreement, Maharashtra Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam on Tuesday said.
He was responding to a question about a news channel report that a number of officials and some political leaders were caught in so-called honeytrap cases.
Speaking outside the state legislature complex, Kadam said, "As per my information, only one case of honeytrap was registered in Thane. It was later withdrawn as both parties reached an agreement."
Police are investigating an email which reportedly contains information related to such cases, he said, adding, "We are trying to trace it back to its origin and verifying it. Nobody should get scared."
A senior police official told PTI that a government official posted in Nashik lodged a complaint with Thane police some days ago that a woman was harassing him. The woman had filed a complaint against the official.
Police called both for questioning. Eventually, the official and woman gave separate written statements that the dispute had arisen due to misunderstanding, and the case was thus withdrawn, he said.
