Bhopal, Jul 14 (PTI) Two Bachelor of Pharmacy students from Bhopal, aged 20 and 22, drowned in a dam in adjoining Sehore district in Madhya Pradesh during a picnic, while their friend managed to swim to safety, police said on Monday.
Their bodies were retrieved from the Kolar Dam by the State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF) on Monday after 18 hours of effort, Sehore's Bilkisganj Station House Officer (SHO) Sandeep Meena told PTI.
The incident occurred at around 5 pm on Sunday when a group of four students had gone to the scenic dam, about 30km from the Bhopal district headquarters, for a picnic. While bathing in the dam, three of them entered deep waters and drowned, while the third one managed to swim back to safety, he said.
The deceased were identified as Prince Rajput (22), originally a native of Bihar, and Ujjwal Tripathi (20), a resident of MP's Chhatarpur district, Meena informed.
Rajput lived in a rented accommodation in Bhopal's MP Nagar, while Tripathi stayed in Ashoka Garden, also in the state capital.
Both were pursuing BPharm course from different private colleges in Bhopal, he added.
The bodies were handed over to their families after post-mortem examination, the police officer said.
Meanwhile, a video clip showing the four students enjoying a splash in the dam has gone viral. In the clip, three of them are seen drifting into deep waters. One of them, after initially faltering in the dam waters, is seen making his way back to safety, while his two friends disappear.
