Labourer working at Delhi-Mumbai Expressway construction site dies after falling from over 40 feet

New Delhi, Jul 13 (PTI) A 29-year-old labourer working at a construction site of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in southeast Delhi died after he fell from a height of more than 40 feet, police said on Sunday.
    The deceased has been identified as Sachin, a resident of Sultanpuri in outer Delhi, police said, adding that he originally hailed from Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh.
    "Sachin was employed with a private company, which is working on a section of the expressway under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) project," read the statement of Delhi Police.
    Police said an information was received from Holy Family Hospital at 1.13 pm on Saturday that a man was brought dead following an accident at a construction site in the Ashram area.
    "During local inquiry, it was revealed that Sachin was working on a pillar at the construction site. At around 9.30 am, he was reportedly adjusting a jack at a height of approximately 40 to 45 feet. During this process, the jack slipped, causing Sachin to lose balance and fall," the statement said.
    Sachin was rushed to the hospital by his co-workers but was declared brought dead by doctors, it further said.

    Police said that the body was sent for post-mortem examination, which has been conducted, and the body was handed over to the family members.
    The case is being probed to ascertain if safety protocols were followed at the site and whether negligence on the part of the company, they said.
