Jaipur, Jul 11 (PTI) The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has urged the Rajasthan government to make a stringent law against forced conversions in the state.
A delegation of the VHP met Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma here on Friday and raised the demand.
"The incidents of forced and illegal religious conversions are growing in the state. This is an alarming trend, and a strict law is needed to curb this," national spokesperson of the VHP Amitosh Pareek said.
VHP's central president Alok Kumar led the delegation, which included regional secretary (organisation) Rajaram, regional secretary Suresh Upadhyay and other leaders and office bearers.
"The delegation raised serious concern over the religious conversion conspiracies which are being spread across every city and town in the state," he said.
According to Pareek, the delegation said that "insulting" Hindu deities and culture had become commonplace, with individuals being misled through deceit, temptation, false claims of medical treatment and other coercive methods.
"This not only damages the faith of Hindus but also poses a grave threat to the unity and integrity of the country," Pareek said.
The delegation also highlighted the "plight'' of tribal communities in the state and said that conversions are threatening the unique traditions and cultural identity of the tribals.
"The delegation stressed that a robust law against forced conversions is essential not just for the protection of Hindu society and Indian culture, but also for safeguarding the integrity of the nation," Pareek said.
