Shimla, Jul 11 (PTI) A workshop and exhibition on innovative industrial and medicinal hemp-based products was inaugurated by state Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi in Shimla on Friday.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu also visited the venue.
Interacting with media, Sukhu said the event was an initiative to informally gather information about cannabis cultivation for industrial and medicinal purposes in states like Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh, as well as foreign countries.
He said the idea was to draw a plan on how Himachal Pradesh can implement the same.
Revenue minister Negi, who took the lead in organising the seminar, said that a committee was constituted two years ago to study the constructive use of cannabis. The research is in the initial stage and further steps would be taken after more consultations and discussions.
Inaugurating the seminar, Negi said that legalising cannabis for medicinal and industrial purposes would help in increasing the revenue of farmers, and consequently, of the state.
The minister visited the exhibition organised by reputed companies producing hemp-based products and interacted with their representatives. The companies also gave presentations on their products.
