New Delhi, Jul 10 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday directed officials to inspect areas that are prone to waterlogging, even on days when there is no rain, officials said.
Her meeting came the night after several areas in Delhi became submerged, and social media awash with videos of people wading knee-deep in the collected rainwater.
Gupta met PWD Minister Parvesh Singh and officers of PWD and Irrigation and Flood Control Department, and flood management, said an official statement.
She directed them to take steps to prevent waterlogging, and warned them of strict action if they fail.
Gupta expressed satisfaction that, despite the heavy rain, no waterlogging was reported at traditionally problematic zones like Minto Road and ITO junction.
She instructed the officials to demonstrate the same level of efficiency across the entire city.
All the same, heavy waterlogging was reported from areas across the city, such as Patparganj, and even her assembly constituency, Shalimar Bagh.
The chief minister instructed officials to inspect stormwater drains and clear them of blockages.
She directed them to inspect areas prone to waterlogging even on days when there is no rainfall and assigned the field staff the responsibility to address lapses.
The BJP politician asked roadside garbage to be picked up, and prevent trash from ending up in drains.
