New Delhi, Jul 10 (PTI) The Delhi Police on Thursday brought in experts to review if the two labourers who died while cleaning a unit at a hospital in west Delhi's Paschim Vihar were wearing protective gears.
The incident happened at Action Balaji Hospital on Tuesday, with the victims being Uttar Pradesh natives, Birjesh and Vikram, aged 26 and 30.
According to the preliminary investigation, the two fell fallen unconscious while cleaning a carbon filter system at the hospital, police said.
The hospital has claimed the cleaning was carried out by a contractor under the annual maintenance contract.
"We will look at the matter from all angles and also bring in experts from different industries including medical experts to ascertain what led to the death and if there is negligence involved," a police officer said.
There is a lot of technicality involved in the incident since we will also check if the tank will be treated as a sewage or not, he said.
"The cleaning was already completed in the morning by labourers and these two had to put activated carbon in the tank which was vertical and round when the incident happened. We will also check if the labourers involved in the cleaning work were wearing protective gears or not," the officer added.
A case has been booked in connection with the deaths under Section 9 of the Employment of Manual Scavengers and Construction of Dry Latrines (Prohibition) Act, 1993, at Paschim Vihar East Police Station, he said.
Meanwhile, PTI tried reaching out to the private hospital, but there was no response to calls and texts.
