Nagpur, Jul 10 (PTI) An employee from a tehsil office in Maharashtra’s Nagpur district has been arrested for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1.05 to update some land records, an official said on Thursday.
Ajay Pandurang Khobragade, 50, is a circle officer at the tehsil office in the Umred area, said the official from the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
According to officials, the complainant had purchased agricultural land in Rajurwadi village. Since he did not have a farmer’s certificate, he approached the tehsil office to update the land registration.
Khobragade allegedly demanded Rs 1.05 lakh to get the work done, said the ACB official.
After the complainant approached the ACB, the anti-graft agency first verified the complaint and then laid a trap on Wednesday. An ACB team caught Khobragade red-handed as he accepted the bribe amount, the official said.
A case is being registered against the accused at Wathoda police station under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Meanwhile, his house is being searched, the official added.
