Karate instructor held for sexually abusing girl

Mumbai, Jul 8 (PTI) The Mumbai police have arrested a karate instructor for allegedly sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl over a period of seven months here, an official said here on Tuesday.
The accused was held on Monday night, he said.
He had been sexually exploiting the girl at their classes in Shivaji Park area of Dadar by threatening her and warning her of consequences if she disclosed about it to anyone, the official said.
"He used to threaten the girl by saying he would falsely inform her mother that she was involved in obscene activities. He also told her that he would harm her mother if she spoke to anyone about his acts," he said.
Due to the harassment, the girl started skipping her karate classes. Her mother noticed changes in her behaviour and after taking her into confidence, she asked the daughter if everything was fine. At that time, the girl told her about the karate instructor, following which the family approached the police and lodged a complaint.
Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. A police team was sent to the residence of the accused, from where he was arrested.
Further investigation is underway, the official added.
