Thane, Jul 2 (PTI) The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a revenue department employee and a private person for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a man foe releasing certain land-related documents, officials said on Wednesday.
The accused were trapped at the additional tehsildar's office in Mira-Bhayandar locality of Thane district.
The accused duo, revenue assistant Shyam Bedekar and private person Vinod Indulkar, were booked and arrested under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act on Tuesday, inspector Sachin More of the Thane unit of the ACB said.
"The complainant had defaulted on a housing loan taken from a financial institution, following which the district collector passed an order to hand over the mortgaged flat to that institution. In an attempt to challenge the notice from the revenue authorities before the Debt Recovery Tribunal, the complainant sought certain official documents from the additional tehsildar's office," he said.
However, Indulkar demanded and accepted Rs 60,000 in order to hand over the documents.
The complainant then approached the Thane ACB and lodged a formal complaint.
"Acting on the complaint, we laid a trap at the tehsil office on Tuesday, and Indulkar was caught red-handed while accepting additional Rs 20,000 from the complainant, following which Bedekar was also held," he said.
