New Delhi, Jun 30 (PTI) A group of parents met Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday to raise concerns about the fee hike in private schools and requested the government to intervene.
The group, representing the Delhi Parents' Association, reached the Delhi Secretariat to discuss the matter, an official statement said.
According to the statement, the chief minister assured them that the issue would be looked into and a meeting would be held soon with parents from different schools.
The discussion is expected to include the chief minister, education minister and officials from the education department, it said.
Earlier in the day, the parents had tried to meet the chief minister at her residence in Shalimar Bagh but were stopped due to security reasons. They were later called to the Secretariat, where the meeting took place, a parent said.
During the meeting, the parents said that some private schools were not following the Directorate of Education's guidelines and were issuing notices to students over non-payment of increased fees.
They also expressed concern about what they described as unfair treatment of students in such cases.
The parents, under the banner of the United Parents' Voice (UPV), urged the government to pause any proposed ordinance related to school fees until proper consultation is held.
They said that parents and citizens should be involved in decisions that affect school education.
They also raised concerns about the way fee-related issues are being handled by some school authorities and requested the government to ensure that rules are implemented fairly.
