Mathura (UP), Jun 24 (PTI) Two men were charred to death after their motorcycle crashed into an electric pole and caught fire here early on Tuesday, police said.
The incident occurred around midnight when near the Hathi Baba Ashram on the Mathura-Vrindavan Road when the motorcycle hit the pole with such force that it immediately burst into flames.
The two persons on the vehicle were unable to escape nd were burnt alive while still seated, they said.
Station House Officer (SHO) Jasbir Singh said around 1 am, Azad, from Fatehpur Bas Gorai village in Aligarh, happened to be passing by when he witnessed the incident.
He informed the police control room. Fire fighters rushed to the spot and doused the flames following which the charred bodies were sent for post-mortem.
"The victims are yet to be identified," Singh said, adding that efforts are on to trace the owner of the vehicle using the engine and chassis numbers of the burnt motorcycle.
Further investigation is underway, the officer added.
