Jamshedpur, Jun 24 (PTI) A criminal from Jharkhand wanted in two murder cases was arrested at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, a senior police official said on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Nishar Hasan alias Nishar Hussain alias Nishu, against whom the Union Home Ministry had issued a lookout notice, was apprehended by Jamshedpur police with the help of airport authorities upon his return from Bahrain , Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Piyush Pandey said at a press conference.
Nishar, a resident of South Park under Bistupur police station limits, was the prime accused in the murder of Pawan Yadav, who was shot dead near the Swarnarekha River under Sakchi police station about two years ago. Nine others had already been arrested in that case, along with the firearms used in the crime, the SSP said.
While on the run, Nishar was allegedly involved in further criminal activities, including the murder of Raja Singh on Gurudwara Road under Mango police station in 2023, and an attempt to murder Ashutosh Ojha alias Anshu over personal enmity near Dimna Lake under Bodam police station, Pandey added.
He was also reportedly extorting money from people involved in land dealings and was working to revive the Amarnath Singh gang, following the gangster’s assassination in Dumka district in 2023.
Under pressure from police, Nishar fled the country and took refuge in Bahrain.
On the recommendation of the East Singhbhum district police, the Union Home Ministry issued a lookout notice against him, according to the SSP.
The notice compelled Nishar to return to India a few days ago, upon which he was intercepted and arrested at Delhi Airport. He was brought back to Jamshedpur on transit remand.
The Jharkhand government had announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for Nishar’s arrest.
Police have registered seven criminal cases against him under various sections of the IPC, Arms Act, Explosive Substances Act, and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the SSP added.
